The energy meter under this project represents the foundation of the energy management system that consists of smart meters and smart switches. Therefore, in this project a smart meter unit will be designed and equipped by smart transducers. The design has the following main features:

• Modularity of the design which makes it flexible and suitable for educational and research purposes.

• Inter-communication with smart transducers and modularity or re-configurability.

​

• A wireless communication protocol that can be used to communicate data to computers or other devices. 

​

• It has the ability to measure the % Total Harmonics Distortion (%THD) when monitoring energy consumption which gives the meter the ability to determine the quality of measured power.
