The proposed design of the smart meter follows the block diagram shown below, by designing the voltage and current transducers for signal acquisition, and processing the signals after conditioning them through the MCU of smart transducers. Using two-chip configuration, data will be transferred from smart transducer or slave unit to master unit.  This design will be flexible for future modification to have 3-phase measurement by extending the transducers design to three phase signal acquisition. Moreover, the MCU selected for the single phase design should be flexible to be used with poly-phase inputs.
